Smashburger has inked franchise agreements for companies to open as many as 61 new restaurants nationwide and has promoted one of its internal leaders to be its chief development officer.
The Denver-based burger chain said Tuesday it signed agreements that will get it into the following markets:
Upstate New York and Vermont, with eight restaurants;
Jackson, Miss., with 10 restaurants;
Fayetteville, N.C., with three restaurants;
Annapolis, Md., with three restaurants; and,
Pittsburgh, with four restaurants.
In addition, Smashburger has expanded franchise agreements to add more locations in Ventura, California; Houston; New York City; eastern Massachusetts; and Chester, Pennsylvania.
The company also promoted David Biederman, who has overseen construction and development of new locations, to become its chief development officer. He will continue to lead those areas and also will oversee information technology, purchasing and real estate.
"Dave has been an integral member of Smashburger's core development team and was instrumental in developing the restaurant's initial operating platform, smashing process, restaurant design as well as construction processes critical to the brand's success today," said Scott Crane, Smashburger CEO.
The announcements come one day after Smashburger, which has more than 270 locations, garnered the top spot on Fast Casual website's annual list of "Top 100 Movers & Shakers."
