Bharat Chhabria said Thursday that he expects to open the first pub in May in the commercial building Midtown Centre, which is on Thomasville Road just south of Seventh Avenue.
The second Brass Tap is to follow soon thereafter at a location near College Town, he said.
Founded in 2007, The Brass Tap has its corporate offices in Tampa and sells products from local craft brewers. The company was acquired in 2012 by FSC Franchise Co. LLC, which also is the franchisor of Beef O"Brady's restaurants.
"It's a relatively young franchise and they are opening more and more locations," Chhabria said. The Brass Tap likely will soon have more of a national footprint than simply a Florida market, he noted. Another location is opening soon in Mesa, Ariz.
Tallahassee's market profile attracted him.
"Really, you have to look at what the city's up to. Tallahassee is growing," Chhabria said, citing new hotels, bars, restaurants and retail stores as examples. "You don"t see too many cities where the investment climate is that active." Ed Murray Jr., president of commercial real estate and leasing company NAI Talcor, said The Brass Tap will occupy the space on the east side of Midtown Centre, which has an outdoor seating area overlooking Gadsden Street.
