General Manager Craig Muccini said franchise stores like his in Amherst are under different ownership and management than the four corporately owned stores that recently shut down.
"Obviously, we get a lot of questions," Muccini said. "They are asking us what's going on, when they are opening, if they are opening, why they closed, and I don't know what to say because I honestly don't know what to say because I honestly don't know the answers to those questions." Muccini said his store isn't affected by what's going on with the four closed stores.
"We are not closing. We are open," he said. "We have plenty of product. We're getting ready for Valentine's Day. We are here and not going anywhere." An executive for the parent company of The Meat House told News 9 that the closures were for remodeling, and the stores would reopen in a few weeks.
But News 9 has learned that investors are suing the company for failing to repay $350,000, and employees have filed complaints about payroll checks bouncing.
"Obviously, deep down, you worry a little," Muccini said. "But I just try not to worry and focus in on operations and doing what we do." The employees at the independent Amherst store said they're focused on being part of their community. They said they still get their meat and goods fresh from local suppliers, and they pride themselves on high quality and customer experience.
"We have been doing the right thing since we have been open," Muccini said. "The community has accepted us. More and more people keep coming through the doors every single day. We've got a great staff, and I know if we do the right thing, they will continue to come and we will be successful." Muccini said he will continue to pay his weekly franchise fees, and he hopes the company will soon give him more information.
