On Thursday night, the school board unanimously approved a sponsorship agreement for installing a healthy-snack vending machine at Red Land High School. The machine will offer protein bars, nuts, granola treats and other healthy selections.
This is the second sponsorship agreement between Vitality Vending of Gettysburg and the Market Street Sports Group LLC, which serves as the district's exclusive marketing agent.
In March, Vitality Vending placed a healthy snack machine in Cedar Cliff High School, which so far is a success, officials said. In three months, the district cleared around $500 from sales at Cedar Cliff, Assistant Superintendent Todd Stoltz said.
The school board hired the Market Street firm in summer 2012 to help the district generate revenue through sponsorships and advertising. The district is forwarding a portion of its proceeds to the Market Street firm as payment for services.
School Board member Ronald Candioto confirmed that the Vitality machine already is a hit with Cedar Cliff students.
"One of my grandchildren goes to Cedar Cliff. I heard that if you didn't get out to the Vitality machine in time, then you didn't get it," Candioto said.
