Franchisee and Lexington native Bonnie Mays opened a Lexington franchise in September that now has 34 agents. Two weeks ago, she opened a Louisville franchise in a temporary office at 10200 Forest Green Blvd. and now has three agents there.
The United Real Estate model includes three focuses, she said in an interview.
The company uses the latest technology to sell real estate, including cloud-based marketing, education and document storage.
It has a relaxed venue. When the Louisville franchise opens its permanent office, Mays said, it will look much like the Lexington office, which has a coffee shop where clients can relax and do business. It also has an open workspace for agents.
"Young people don't like to be tethered to a desk or cubicle," Mays said.
Finally, agents don't pay a percentage to a broker for every transaction. Instead, they pay a standard fee of $495. That allows them to keep the rest of their commission, which they can set as high or as low as they like.
Mays said she already has heard from several real estate agents interested in joining the firm and expects it will have 80 or 100 agents in Louisville within three or four years.
"This program is so attractive to the 30-year-olds who have always had a mouse in their hand," she said.
