The Denver-based franchiser plans to set up as many as 200 outlets in India by 2016 and is looking to expand its international footprint to more than 40 countries and territories from its current 30 over the next few years.
Other U.S. franchises have also recently been setting up shop or adding more locations overseas, according to a Wall Street Journal article published in March. For example, Subway, owned by Doctor's Associates Inc., opened its 1,000th location in Asia, including its first in Vietnam, earlier this year. And Dunkin' Brands Inc., parent of Dunkin' Donuts and Baskin-Robbins, plans to open thousands of new outlets in China in coming year.
Meanwhile, Magnolia Bakery, a New York purveyor of cupcakes and other baked goods, announced plans last month to sell franchises for the first time just in foreign markets. Cities it's eyeing include Sao Paulo, Tokyo and Doha, Qatar. (For more, please see "Magnolia to Sell Franchises Overseas.")
