Growing day spa franchise picks West Virginia college student to represent brand

A graphic design student from West Virginia will be the 2011 international spokesmodel for Planet Beach Contempo Spas, the world's largest day spa franchise.

After winning the Ohio regional competition and advancing to the world finals, Jennifer Comer, 22, was crowned the winner at Friday's finals in New Orleans. Her $150,000 prize package includes two Planet Beach Contempo Spa franchise licenses, $25,000 in cash and a travel package to represent the growing franchisor.

"Planet Beach has created an entirely new segment of the day spa industry," said Comer. "It's an honor to be at the forefront as Planet Beach expands its contempo spa concept. It's not only new and fascinating; it is a business that really helps people live healthier, less stressful lives." For the eighth year, New Orleans-based Planet Beach hosted regional competitions worldwide to narrow thousands of entries into a group of 12 finalists. The final competition was held Jan. 21 at the New Orleans Sheraton Hotel.

"She is not only an outstanding and ambitious young woman but also ideally represents the face of our brand. And she can connect with our core customers." It created the 'contempo spa' business model to offer members unlimited access to automated and push-button day spa services such as massages, facials, saunas, teeth whitening, guided meditation and red light therapy for low monthly membership fees.

Entrepreneur magazine proclaimed 2011 the year of the franchised day spa and listed Planet Beach Contempo Spas as the best bet.
