Fatburger To Light Up West Broadway In Vancouver

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

Neon lights will soon brighten up West Broadway in Vancouver as Fatburger, the chain of hip 1950s-style hamburger joints from Los Angeles, prepares for a December 1 opening of a classic hamburger stand that draws its inspiration from the iconic chain's founding back in 1952.

Occupying just 800 square feet, "The Last Great Hamburger Stand" nevertheless will mix ample portions of burger joint musts like neon and stainless steel with a menu that includes signature Fatburgers and other great-tasting items.

But the visual centerpiece of the compact restaurant will be a 15-foot-tall neon-lit sign that will beckon to motorists and pedestrians along Broadway to try their very first Fatburger or to return for another helping of great food.

Inside seating will be available for 21 guests, with another 16 to be accommodated on an outdoor patio. All orders will be cooked to each guest's liking in the spotless open kitchen and then brought to their table. Takeout service will be available, too. The restaurant will offer free two-hour on-site parking, as well as parking at the adjacent corner side street. A staff of 15 to 20 will be employed at the location.

But a burger joint is all about the food. That's why every Fatburger patty will be made with fresh, never frozen AAA Canadian Alberta beef and can be dressed with all the usual condiments, as well as with chili, bacon, mushrooms, an assortment of cheeses, and even a fried egg. Want a larger serving? Guests will have the option of ordering a one-half-pound Kingburger or even a three-quarter-pound Double Fatburger or Triple Kingburger.

Guests looking for something different can enjoy tasty options like lean Turkeyburgers, plus an assortment of delicious chicken entrees, including Grilled Chicken, Spicy Fat Chicken and Crispy Fat Chicken Sandwiches, and a Cajun Chicken Cheddar Salad and a Grilled Chicken Salad. The restaurant also serves Chili Dogs, Veggieburgers, and a Fat Salad.

Also included are homemade onion rings, fries, Fatburger's "best anywhere" milkshakes made with real hand-scooped ice cream and available with real strawberries, along with refreshing beers on tap, such as Molson Canadian, Corona/Stella Artois, plus Heineken in bottles and frozen strawberry and lime-flavoured margaritas.

"To paraphrase lyrics from The Drifter's hit song, On Broadway, the neon lights will be bright on Broadway, and our guests will have plenty to eat when we open this December on West Broadway in Vancouver," Frank Di Benedetto, the Fatburger franchisor for Canada, and CEO of Frankie's Burger Enterprises and the Ricky's All Day Grill chain. "We are delighted to bring our retro-styled Fatburger restaurant to an area of Vancouver that has long embraced unique hamburger restaurants and diners along the famed Broadway corridor." Other Fatburgers in Western Canada include two locations in Calgary, plus restaurants in Langley, Prince George, Edmonton, White Rock/Surrey and Kelowna, along with two downtown Vancouver locations, and in Vancouver's West End, home of Canada's first Fatburger. A new Fatburger restaurant opened recently in Burnaby.

"Building a Fatburger stand on Broadway that's so reminiscent of our early days in Los Angeles is great idea that is sure to be well-received by Vancouver's burger-loving residents," said Elaine Patel, vice president of marketing, Fatburger North America, Inc.
