In response to this continuing urbanization, City Council approved a Tree Advocacy Planting Program for Toronto in 2000. The program seeks to leave a legacy of trees for future generations by initiating tree planting along City streets, arterial roads, neighbourhood parks and in ravines. Since its inception, the Tree Advocacy Planting Program has planted over 400,000 trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants at over 300 locations across the City.
