Bottoms Up Pizza Announces Launch Of Franchise Program

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA | Wednesday, January 24, 2007

Voted "Best Pizza" year after year, Bottoms Up Pizza recently announced that the gourmet pizza restaurant would be opening its doors in new markets through its franchising program. Founded by Dirk Graham and Coalter Turpin in 1990, Bottoms Up began as a small pizza shop in historic Richmond with seating for approximately one dozen customers. The restaurant quickly outgrew its original location, and in 1992 grew into a full-service restaurant now known as the Richmond favorite. Presently, there are three Bottoms Up corporate stores. "Nearly two decades have passed and our focus remains the same, a commitment to quality," says Graham. "We are constantly amazed by the number of requests that we receive from customers wanting us to open in their cities. The franchising program provides the perfect opportunity for that." In 2005, Inside Business ranked Bottoms Up Pizza as the 6th most identifiable brand in the Richmond region. The casual dining restaurant evokes an upscale environment with modern, artistic elements. The franchise units will be a scaled down version of the original Bottoms Up restaurant. Bottoms Up Development, the franchise company of Bottoms Up Pizza, was initiated by Steve Lewis, Christopher DeCapri, and Woody Vickery. Lewis, a former Director of the Virginia Restaurant Association, is the owner of Schlesingers Chop House in Newport News, Virginia, and Toby's Dinner Theater in Baltimore and Columbia, Maryland. DeCapri owns and operates a chain of jewelry stores, Capri Jewelers. Together, they are co-owners of Hondo's Only Prime in Glen Allen, Virginia. Vickery will act as the Director of Operations, with more than a decade of restaurant development and management experience.

Rachael Morrow has been hired to oversee the growth and development of the Bottoms Up brand. Morrow previously was the Director of Franchise Development for Alexandria, Virginia based, franchise consulting firm, Fransmart, which has represented brands such as Five Guys, Qdoba Mexican Grill, and Zpizza. Morrow says, "I am thrilled to be working with Bottoms Up Pizza. The brand has tremendous opportunity in the casual dining (gourmet pizza) segment." Franchising efforts will focus on expansion throughout the Southeast. "We are looking to build upon our strong brand recognition and loyal customer base," says Morrow.
