"We're extremely excited about the high level of interest we've had in our franchising program," said Andrew Smart, Duke Sandwich Company president. "We've exceeded our expectations in terms of franchise inquiries and signed agreements for the year." Smart stated that the company is also opening new franchise restaurants in Charleston and Myrtle Beach.
The new upstate franchisees come from a variety of backgrounds. Prior to joining Duke Sandwich, Tom and Mary Anise Turner, owners of the Woodruff Road franchise, both worked in the health care industry. Kim Gooding, Simpsonville franchise owner, worked in the manufacturing industry as a quality engineer. Anderson and Clemson area franchise owner Don West worked as an engineer and in real estate. Randy McGarity, owner of all Spartanburg County Duke Sandwich franchises, is currently the CEO of several businesses including five Servpro franchises serving the Greenville/Spartanburg Area.
In preparation for franchising, Duke Sandwich has made numerous changes, beginning with the creation of a new division, Duke Sandwich Franchising, Inc., to manage franchising inquires and provide support services. Duke Sandwich has continued to develop their partner and vendor network for franchise support. Long-standing partners such as SYSCO Foods, Pepsi, and Flowers Bakery will combine with newly formed partnerships, such as Starbucks, to provide high-quality food and beverage partnerships. Additionally, Duke Sandwich has expanded its presence on the Web, revamping its website to offer a user-friendly experience while telling the Duke Sandwich story.
