Bursary In A Cup: Van Houtte Combines Green Thinking With Educational Grants

MONTREAL | Thursday, October 20, 2005

With the purchase of a Van Houtte thermal mug, CEGEP and university students across Quebec will have the opportunity to win a bursary while protecting the environment

Van Houtte Inc. (TSX: VH.SV), one of North America’s leading gourmet coffee roasters, launched Bursary in a Cup, a new program that will give Quebec CEGEP and university students the chance to take part of an educational bursary by purchasing a stainless steel thermal coffee mug from participating schools across the province. The program also encourages students to “think green” since the mugs can significantly reduce the unsightly waste of disposable coffee cups and plastic lids. “With more and more students requesting environmentally friendly solutions in their cafeterias, we took it upon ourselves to develop a program that addressed this important issue,” said Joseph Audi, Director of Marketing, Van Houtte Inc. “And the Bursary in a Cup program allows us to give students the green option they were asking for plus a chance to win some tuition money. For those who participate, it is truly a win-win situation.” The thermal mugs, which can hold up to 500 ml of coffee, are sold at participating university and CEGEP cafeterias for $3.73 each, including the first cup of coffee. Van Houtte will donate 50 cents per mug to the CEGEP or university where the cup was sold. No purchase is required to participate in the Bursary in Cup contest. To enter, students can visit www.vanhoutte.com/bursary to submit an e-form. The contest ends January 5, 2006, and the draw will take place on January 15, 2006. The grant amounts at each school are based on the number of mugs sold.
