Tom Huling, a Thrifty Car Rental franchise owner in Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR, for 27 years, was honored with Auto Rental News' 7th Annual Executive Leadership Award, the magazine announced at the industry's annual Car Rental Show this month. Huling has four locations in Portland and Seattle. His company, Pacific Northwest Rental Leasing Co., has a fleet averaging 1,700 vehicles. In addition to many years of active involvement with Thrifty Car Rental's National Advertising Committee, a franchisee group that advises the company on advertising and marketing initiatives, Huling has also been active in the Washington Car and Truck Rental and Leasing Association (CATRALA). He is also known industry-wide for his marketing savvy and progressive employee development programs. "We are really proud of Tom, and the hard work he and his employees put into making Thrifty a first-class car rental company," said Don Himelfarb, President and CEO of Thrifty, Inc. "Thrifty customers get nothing but the best when they visit Seattle and Portland." The award was presented to Huling by Sherb Brown, the publisher of Auto Rental News. Huling is the third Thrifty franchisee to be honored with the award in the seven years of its existence. Previous recipients have included Tom Celona of Providence, RI, and Ken Elder (retired), formerly of Welcome Corp. in the Washington, D.C. area. The award is open to all car and truck rental industry managers and executives, and was developed to honor excellence in rental management, and the accomplishments, abilities and personalities of individual leaders in the auto rental industry.
