But, once the founders perfected their carpet cleaning equipment and techniques they progressed to furniture and drapery cleaning. From there they progressed to water and fire damage restoration. It was during a post-fire clean-up that the company noticed the problem of smoke and soot hiding in air ducts. That restoration led them to pioneer in air duct cleaning, too. At that point Steamatic added hi-tech recovery services for documents, electronics and media.
Today Steamatic boosts a well-recognized brand name in cities across the country and in many foreign markets. But it didnt happen overnight. The company has done plenty to put Steamatic in the minds of clean-thinking homeowners and businesses around the world.
For one thing, Steamatic franchise owners get solid training in how to market their services. Although Steamatic franchisees contract their own advertising at the local level, Teri Hill, director of advertising, hosts training sessions at headquarters and on the intranet. "When I train, I always tell them to position themselves as the local expert on cleaning and restoration services," she says. "I develop complete advertising campaigns yellow page ads, brochures, press releases, radio, newspaper, direct mail and TV spots which they customize for their location." As a corporation, Steamatic also targets major insurance agencies, extensively advertising their restoration services and arranging to become preferred vendors for complete restoration services. Steamatic headquarters also mans a toll-free 24 hour emergency response number for agencies and property owners. "They call our Emergency Response Center and we route the caller to the Steamatic location closest to them," Hill says.
Steamatic has developed a sub-franchise, corporately owned, called BMS Catastrophe, "BMS CAT handles large-scale disaster recoveries. This specialized franchise works hand-in-hand with our independent franchise owners on projects that require additional manpower and expertise." "Steamatic is considered to be the leader in the cleaning and restoration industry. The success and longevity is attributed to the support system and our in-house R&D department that is continually developing new equipment and processes for our franchise network," said Hill.
Steamatic began franchising in 1968 and now has nine company owned stores and 400 franchise territories in 21 countries.
